Froghead Hangover Review

Froghead Hangover got reviewed as part of a mini-comics round-up over at High-Low, the temporary home of Rob Clough’s sequart.com comic column.

Despite this comic’s absurd title, it is absolutely an accurate description of its contents. Reminiscent of somewhere between Mat Brinkman and Sam Gaskin, Cardini tells a story of a video-game playing humanoid who wakes up from a bad hangover to find that a large froghead has somehow wound up in his house.

Review.

FROGHEAD HANGOVER

Filed under: Print Comics — Tags: — William Cardini @ 8:38 pm

Here’s the cover and a couple of pages from my new comic FROGHEAD HANGOVER that I’ll have (pending pickup from the printer tomorrow) to trade at MoCCA 2009! The comic is a true story from when I was living by myself in a small apartment in Austin back in 2006 … When I get back to the ATX I plan on screenprinting a different cover for the for-sale version!

Cover for the trade edition.

If you’ll be at MoCCA and you’re exhibiting, be prepared to be handed a copy! Here’s what I look like:

Glade and I are in the process of screenprinting the cover for TRANZ.

TRANZ cover

I’ve never screenprinted before (and I’m doing everything at the last possible second) so Glade’s been helping me a lot.

Check out the awesome color combo that Glade put together for the bottom layer of the cover.

Of course, I’m just getting drunkz…

TRANZ

Filed under: Print Comics — William Cardini @ 11:51 am

I’m working on a new comic called TRANZ that I plan on having ready for Staple 2009 (March 7th at the Monarch Event Center here in Austin). I started drawing it with Faber Castelli markers but now I’m going to do the whole thing in india ink with a 00 Windsor Sable Watercolor brush. Here’s the old version of the cover:

TRANZ

The idea is to do a lot of one to four page comics that depict a single transformation governed by a concise action verb. Here’s an example page, called “Melt”:

"Melt"

I’m doing the comic this way to practice my craft. Every page will be six panels – I’ve already cut the pages and drawn the grid with a pencil. I’m trying to explore transformation and repetition through the medium of cartooning. I’m really excited about this project.
