My blog and site are mostly done, but I’m still tweaking. I’ll let y’all know when I stop tinkering with this. Please let me know if anything’s broken or looks weird.
I went to Houston this past weekend to clean up my old room at my parents’ house. I had to sort through so much artwork, so many drawings of cyborg dragons and spike- and muscle-ridden dinosaurs. It gave me some ideas. I’ll scan some of my old drawz to post eventually.
More importantly, my Hypermorph show at Domy Books Houston went down on 10/21 so I’m free to post everything. Over the next week I’ll be posting what was on each wall. Here’s a shot of the opening with the eastern wall that I’ll post details from this time:

Here’s a sketch that I did to prepare for Monster Show 5, coming up at both Domy stores:
Obviously I’ve been influenced by those Berserk drawz I posted last week. I can’t decide if I should do this in India Ink with a brush and dip pen or do a full-color gouache painting. What do y’all think?
I’ve been super busy preparing for my show Hypermorph at Domy Books in Houston. It opens September 25th from 7-9pm, y’all should come check it out if you’re in town.
Here’s a shot of the prep table, you can see the skin for the froghead pillow that Glade is making for me, Kevin Huizenga’s Fight or Run (definitely an inspiration), one of my boots, and the froghead boutinnières.
Here’s Glade stuffing the froghead pillow.
We decided to leave some of the stuffing hanging out. You can also see part of one of my drawings for the show in the following pic.
Here’s the froghead pillow chilling with my face pillow.
Here’s an in-process shot of one of the paintings that I’m doing.
Aight I gotta peace y’all and go read the prologue for Towers of Midnight, I’ll check y’all later.
I’m busy working on the final pieces for my show. I won’t show much more until after the opening so this blog might be a bit empty until then, but I couldn’t resist making this and posting it:
I finished the poster for my Domy Show last nite, here it is:
The opening will be 7-9 on Saturday, 9/25, at Domy Houston, 1709 Westheimer.
I came up with the name for my Domy Houston show on Wednesday. I was originally going to title it after one of my paintings, The Rise of the Miizzzards, but then I decided that I didn’t want to restrict my show to just paintings of Miizzzards. So, I came up with something more generic: Hypermetamorphologies. After talking with my d00d Paul DeVay, I shortened it to Hypermorphologies. Later, Glade convinced me to (rightly) truncate it further, and so I settled on Hypermorph. Heavy lifting done, I wrote up the statement and my bio, and selected my promo images. You can see the whole package here.
I still need to come up with a poster image for the show, so I’ve been doing some sketches of hypermorphs. Here are the first two that I did:
In order to really get in there and work on some large paintings for my upcoming show at Domy Houston, I crowbarred an easel into my already crowded studio. Here’s a shot of my new setup, with annotations below:
Here’s a more direct shot of the painting:
Here’s a shot zoomed in on one of the Miizzzards:
I finished this painting last nite. I’m going to take some better photos and post them later this week. I’m thinking that this image will end up being the postcard for the show.
I’m going to have a show at Domy Books Houston from Sept 25th to Oct 21st. The opening is going to be on Sept 25th from 7 to 9 pm. I’m going to be working on it as much as possible until then. I have a long list of things that I want to make but not enough time to make all of them.
Here’s a sketch I made for a painting for the show:
Right now I’m thinking that the show is going to be paintings from a battle between the Miizzzard and the Wojrollox. I want to paint a lot of weird transformations, intensely patterned and colorful costumes, and strange worlds.
Last week I posted this sketch to my flickr:
Unbeknownst to me, my buddy and fellow GCPM member Josh Burggraf decided to try his hand at inking over my pencils. Check out the dope result:
I especially dig all the details that he added to the Miizzzard at the bottom.
