{"id":2448,"date":"2011-06-03T07:08:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-03T12:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hypercastle.com\/blog\/?p=2448"},"modified":"2011-06-03T07:08:00","modified_gmt":"2011-06-03T12:08:00","slug":"three-kewl-local-kickstarter-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hypercastle.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/03\/three-kewl-local-kickstarter-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Kewl Local Kickstarter Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hey guys, I just donated to some kewl local(ish) Kickstarter projects that friends of mine who do good work are involved in and I thought I&#8217;d let you know about them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/wileywiggins\/thunderbeam-for-the-ipad\"><i>Thunderbeam!<\/i> for the iPad<\/a> &ndash; fundraising until June 8th<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/boyfriend\/speculator-boy-friend-tour-vehicle-dreamz\">Speculator\/Boy Friend Tour-Vehicle Dreamz<\/a> &ndash; fundraising until June 21st<\/li>\n<li><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/1422626731\/battleberg-ice\">Battleberg Ice<\/a><\/i> &ndash; fundraising until July 28th<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more Click here to read more about these three kewl local Kickstarter projects--><br \/><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/wileywiggins\/thunderbeam-for-the-ipad\"><i>Thunderbeam!<\/i> for the iPad<\/a> &ndash; fundraising until June 8th<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Psychedelic, open-ended adventure&#8221; games are definitely something I want to support, especially when produced by a cadre of local artist and programmers, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.karakasagames.com\/\">Karakasa Games<\/a>, who are into kewl shit. On their site is a long video that goes into detail on their influences with a bunch of clips of out there games and anime, embedded here for your edification:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/23460730?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t have an iPad, so what caught my eye on the Kickstarter was a ten-page digital comic by my d00d <a href=\"http:\/\/ifeelawesome.net\/\">Pete Toms<\/a>. Here&#8217;s a preview:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hypercastle.com\/images\/2011-06-03_image1.jpg\"><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>NOTE: After I wrote this, Wiley asked me to donate a drawing to include in this PDF. So, there&#8217;s a bit of extra incentive for ya.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/boyfriend\/speculator-boy-friend-tour-vehicle-dreamz\">Speculator\/Boy Friend Tour-Vehicle Dreamz<\/a> &ndash; fundraising until June 21st<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Local Austin bands Speculator and <a href=\"http:\/\/boyfriendmusic.tumblr.com\/\">Boy Friend<\/a> and looking for your help to rent a tour bus and rumble through the South and then up the coast to NY. I&#8217;ve never heard Speculator but check out this Boy Friend video by the always amazing <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/catboyfriend\">Amanda Joy<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/23623642?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"705\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/1422626731\/battleberg-ice\">Battleberg Ice<\/a><\/i> &ndash; fundraising until July 28th<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last but not least we have the most recent project of Austin art collective <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boozefox.com\/\">Boozefox<\/a>. These four d00dz (<a href=\"http:\/\/julesbuckjones.com\/\">Jules Buck Jones<\/a>, Drew Liverman, <a href=\"http:\/\/scotteastwood.com\/\">Scott Eastwood<\/a>, and Mike Phalan) have been constructing madness-inducising cardboard sculptures in Texas since 2007, and this latest project is there most ambitious yet: a floating iceberg out on Lady Bird Lake.
