{"id":1267,"date":"2010-01-26T23:51:14","date_gmt":"2010-01-27T04:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hypercastle.com\/blog\/?p=1267"},"modified":"2010-01-26T23:51:14","modified_gmt":"2010-01-27T04:51:14","slug":"fists-page-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hypercastle.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/26\/fists-page-1\/","title":{"rendered":"FISTS Page 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back when I was in college I drew a comic for the <i>Daily Texan<\/i> (UT-Austin&#8217;s paper) called <i>Fists: Free For All<\/i>. My original premise, inspired by <i>Krazy Kat<\/i> and not too different from my current <i>ATTACKS<\/i> series now that I think about it, was to have each strip end with (or revolve around) one character hurling a gloved fist on a stick at another. Although I quickly abandoned that concept, I did, over the years, develop a set of regular characters and images that I kept coming back to, like the previously mentioned flying fists, a weird metal bat creature, the cigar-smoking frog, masks, and suited men who had to hold up their own lower jaws on a stick. After I graduated from college and got into Fort Thunder, my style changed pretty rapidly, and abandoned all of these characters except for, of course, the cigar-smoking Frog.<\/p>\n<p>However, this past week, my buddy <a href=\"http:\/\/nataliaciolko.com\/blog\/\">Natalia Ciolko<\/a> asked me to do a two-page comic for the next issue of her zine <i><a href=\"http:\/\/wordgossip.wordpress.com\">Smear Campaign<\/a><\/i>, and she was already reprinting some old <i>FISTS<\/i> strips, so I decided to do a whole new one.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the first page (I&#8217;ll have the second one up Friday):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hypercastle.com\/images\/2010-01-26_image1.jpg\"><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back when I was in college I drew a comic for the Daily Texan (UT-Austin&#8217;s paper) called Fists: Free For All.
